How to Use Story Therapy Products.
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR BEST RESULTS
•  Before beginning, sit or lay down in a quiet, comfortable place where you will not be distracted or interrupted.
•  Use headphones. By blocking out distractions, you will generally enhance the effectiveness of the Story Therapy.
•  Set aside at least 90 minutes before listening to the recording. This includes 1 hour for the induction, story, and exit, as well as a minimum of 30 minutes for processing your responses afterwards.
•  Do not listen to the CD while driving!  Please read PRECAUTIONS below for more details.

ORDER OF TRACKS ON THE STORY THERAPY CDS

•  The first track is an introduction to the CD and should be listened to at least once before listening to the other tracks.
•  To fully benefit from the stories you should listen to track 2, which contains the hypnosis; however, you can still benefit from the Story Therapy by listening to the story tracks alone.
•  Each story is followed by an exit track that brings you out of the hypnosis. If you choose to listen to the hypnosis track, be sure to listen to the entire exit track after the story is finished.

FREQUENCY OF USE
The optimal use varies depending on how the story affects you and what you like to use it for.  Some people use it daily to help put them in a calm and peaceful state before falling asleep at night.  Some use it daily during rough periods because they feel it gives them hope and puts them back on track in how they are thinking about their life.  It will depend on how healing the story is for you - often people identify more with one or two of the stories than they do all three.

You may also use it more or less like a video or movie you bring out occasionally for entertainment.  There is nothing wrong with using this just to help you pass the time - it can be a nice reminder of the lessons you learned from it before.   The more you listen to it, the more deeply the messages will get into your mind, and therefore the more it should help you.

If you have a negative reaction to the CDs (see PRECAUTIONS, below), we advise that you stop listening to the CDs.  However, we have had a few reports from people saying that the CDs were upsetting in a good way - that repeated use helped them to clear up an important issue, and that after listening to it several times, they no longer found the CD upsetting and that it helped to heal the underlying issue.

PRECAUTIONS

The CDs make many people sleepy
Do not use these CDs while driving!  Our Story Therapy CDs use hypnosis and deep relaxation techniques. They should never be used while driving or operating machinery. It should never be used while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. This product should not be used in conjunction with any form of medication without first consulting a qualified professional.

You will probably feel tired during and/or after listening to the story.  In our research more than half the subjects felt sleepy during or after listening.  Many of our customers report listening to the CDs as a way of falling asleep at night.  While this was not the primary intent when we created them - and some people actually feel more alert after listening to them than before - this is how they affect most people.  Therefore, you should not use our CDs if you need to be alert during or after listening to the CD.

The CDs are Powerful
The good news is that the CDs have powerful effects.  For some, this can mean a period of feeling elated, powerful and unusually productive for days after listening.  Most people feel very positive after listening and feel the effects for days.  However, some people actually feel worse after they listen to the CDs, with periods of sadness and aggravation after listening.

That said, the vast majority (23 of 24) of people who listened to Story Therapy CDs in our in-house research showed improvement in positive and/or negative mood after versus before listening to the CDs.  Based on our research, as well as anecdotal evidence from customers, family and friends, about 80% experience very positive effects, most of the rest have a neutral effect, while a small portion (less than 5%) actually have negative reactions to it.

You are the best judge of whether or not it is the right time for you to listen to something that has could possibly impact you negatively.    Like a drug that has the potential to heal, sometimes there are side effects as well and you should monitor your reaction to see if it is best for you to continue using the CDs.

Our Story Meditation line of CDs is relatively new, but thus far we have had no negative reactions to the CD.  It does not work on a deep conflict level; it is more focused on soothing and giving positive messages to override the old ones.  If you are concerned about the potential negative reactions to our Story Therapy CDs, we suggest you start with our Story Meditation CDs.

The CDs May Remind You of Something
Like any movie yet far more powerful, you will be taking in thoughts, messages, and images that may remind you of something else - positive or negative - and may bring up deeper issues that you have.  The characters in the stories go through conflicts common to most of us, and then find new ways of resolving the conflicts.  Before they are resolved, the characters sometimes undergo difficult situations - you will experience this vicariously as you listen to the CDs.  The whole point is to show you how to get out of similar difficult situation yourself (psychologically).  However, if it is highly similar to something you've already experienced, some of these situations can be troubling.

Note that none of the stories include physical violence or sexual victimization.  However, some of the characters do feel trapped in their life circumstances - though they always find a way to break free.

The only way you can know whether a particular CD will have this effect on you is to read the actual text to the story before you listen to the CD.  We recommend, regardless of your emotional or psychological condition, that you read the stories online (the code for accessing the stories is in your CD booklet) before you actually listen to the story while deeply relaxed and possibly hypnotized.  Please read the story to make sure that none of the material is troubling in the context of your particular personal history and current life situation. If you find that it is troubling, simply return your CD for a full refund.  Before purchasing the CDs, please read the summary of the story, which is provided next to the pictures of the CDs on the Story Therapy Products page.

The Stories are Simple
The stories are very simple in nature.  If you are primarily looking for intellectual stimulation, this is not the product for you.  The stories are speaking to your subconscious mind, which does not understand complexity and many other things your analytical mind might enjoy.  In our testing, however, we found that people who thought the stories were overly simple benefited as much if not more than the people who really liked the stories.  In other words, for whatever reason, "liking" the story does not seem to determine whether or not the CD will have a positive effect on you.  The CDs are written to heal your subconscious, regardless of what your critical mind might tell you about what you just experienced.
